Engineer, Bulk Material Handling

McDonough Manufacturing is a family-owned manufacturer of custom sawmill machinery with over 130 years of experience, headquartered in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and expanded into Canada in 2017. In 2023, McDonough acquired BID Canada Ltd., a leading company in custom dry bulk material handling solutions. Based in Woodstock, New Brunswick, BID Canada Ltd. designs, manufactures, and installs high-quality equipment for industries including cement, mining, ports, power generation, pulp & paper, and steel. Together, McDonough and BID Canada delivers innovative, in-house solutions to clients across North America and around the world.

McDonough | BID Canada Ltd is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineer, Bulk Material Handling to join our on-site engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and supporting systems related to bulk material machines and equipment and processing, ensuring our products are efficient, reliable, and tailored to client needs. Responsibilities

  • Design & Model: Develop detailed 3D models based on contract specifications, creating high-quality shop fabrication drawings. Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations.
  • System Design: Prepare detailed engineering drawings using AutoCAD and other design software.
  • Supplier Coordination: Research and collaborate with external suppliers for purchased and outsourced components, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective parts.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers and other engineers to meet project timelines and specifications. Work closely with production teams to improve drawing quality and enhance shop efficiency, ensuring smooth manufacturing processes.
  • Customer Interaction: Communicate directly with clients to verify that new equipment fits seamlessly into their existing facilities.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all designs meet both contractual and safety standards while maintaining accurate and up-to-date engineering documentation.
  • Sales Support: Collaborate with the Sales team to create proposal drawings for new projects, helping to deliver tailored solutions to customers.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or a related discipline). P.Eng designation in New Brunswick is preferred.
  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in design, 3D modelling.
  • Fabrication Knowledge: Familiarity with the manufacturing industry, steel fabrication processes, including machining, welding specifications, and industry standards. Experience with designing conveyor and sawmill is a strong asset.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in AutoCAD and other relevant engineering software tools. Experience with Genius is a plus.
  • Team-Oriented: A collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams to meet goals and objectives.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey technical concepts clearly to customers and colleagues.
  • Attention to Detail: A high level of precision and attention to detail in all aspects of design and documentation.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent time management, multitasking abilities, and follow-through to manage various tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficient in MS Office, with the ability to manage and track progress in a digital environment.
