McDonough Manufacturing is a family-owned manufacturer of custom sawmill machinery with over 130 years of experience, headquartered in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and expanded into Canada in 2017. In 2023, McDonough acquired BID Canada Ltd., a leading company in custom dry bulk material handling solutions. Based in Woodstock, New Brunswick, BID Canada Ltd. designs, manufactures, and installs high-quality equipment for industries including cement, mining, ports, power generation, pulp & paper, and steel. Together, McDonough and BID Canada delivers innovative, in-house solutions to clients across North America and around the world.

McDonough | BID Canada Ltd is seeking a skilled and motivated Fitter to join our manufacturing team. The Fitter will play a critical role in the assembly, installation, and maintenance of conveyor systems and industrial machinery. Working in a dynamic shop environment, the Fitter will interpret technical drawings, work with precision tools, and collaborate closely with the production team to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality products.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to assemble and fit components of conveyors and industrial machinery.
  • Perform layout, fitting, and assembly of components using appropriate tools, such as grinders, drills, and welding equipment.
  • Align and fit parts according to specifications, ensuring proper dimensions, tolerances, and quality standards.
  • Conduct mechanical adjustments, alignments, and checks to ensure correct function and smooth operation of machinery.
  • Work collaboratively with fabricators, welders, and machinists to ensure seamless integration of components.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues during the fitting process, proposing practical solutions to maintain workflow.
  • Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
  • Follow health and safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of shop equipment as required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven experience as a Fitter in a manufacturing or industrial setting, preferably in conveyor systems or machinery assembly.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of fitting principles, tolerances, and material properties.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, measuring instruments, and power tools (e.g., grinders, drills, welding tools).
  • Basic knowledge of welding and fabrication processes is an asset.
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to handle heavy machinery and tools.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
