McDonough | BID Canada Ltd is looking for a skilled Welder to join our manufacturing team, specializing in the fabrication and assembly of conveyor systems, industrial machinery, and custom designs. As a Welder, you will play a key role in turning technical drawings into high-quality finished products, using various welding techniques and working with different metals and materials.
Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to accurately fabricate and assemble conveyor systems, machinery components, and structural frames.
- Perform MIG, TIG, and Stick welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and other materials as required.
- Cut, shape, and prepare metal parts for welding using tools such as grinders, plasma cutters, and oxy-fuel torches.
- Inspect welds for accuracy, quality, and adherence to specifications, making corrections as necessary.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following shop safety standards and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with fitters, fabricators, and assembly teams to ensure projects are completed to specifications and on schedule.
- Assist with fitting and tack welding components prior to final welding.
- Monitor and maintain welding equipment to ensure proper operation and prevent breakdowns.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts, offering suggestions to enhance productivity and quality.
- Support the assembly and installation of machinery as needed
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience as a Welder in a manufacturing or industrial setting, preferably in conveyor systems, industrial machinery, or custom fabrication.
- Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding, with knowledge of proper techniques, settings, and material handling.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
- Strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, and ability to produce high-quality welds with minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with various metalworking tools and processes, including grinding, cutting, and measuring.
- Basic understanding of fitting principles and tolerance requirements.
- Commitment to workplace safety, quality, and teamwork.
- Physical ability to handle heavy materials, work in various positions, and perform tasks in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred Skills
- Welding certifications (CWB, AWS, or equivalent) are an asset.
- Experience in conveyor system fabrication or machinery manufacturing is a plus.
- Forklift operation certification is an asset.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing shop floor environment with exposure to welding fumes, noise, and machinery.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
- May involve standing, bending, lifting, and working in confined spaces or at heights.
- Occasional overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
